Garhākota is a town in the Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh, in the historic region of Bundelkhand. Its name points to its origin: garh means fort, and the town grew beside a fortress built at the meeting of two small rivers, the Sonar and the Gadheri. That confluence still shapes the map, with water lines framing one side of the old settlement.
From above, the historic core appears as a knot of narrow, irregular lanes close to the fort, while newer roads extend outward toward the highway and surrounding villages. The land around is gently rolling, part of the plateau country of central India, with farmland, ponds and scattered groves filling the spaces between settlements.
