Hehua lies in far western Yunnan, in the Tengchong area near the border with Myanmar. From above, the town is a compact cluster of streets set in a valley floor. The land around it is divided into small fields, and the streets thin out into lanes and scattered farm buildings. The map shows a place shaped by agriculture and terrain rather than by a planned grid.
The wider Tengchong region is known across China for its volcanic landscape and hot springs, and it sits on old trade routes between Yunnan and Southeast Asia.
