Horsforth sits on the northwest edge of Leeds, above the valley of the River Aire. It is often described as one of the largest villages in England, and although it has long since joined the wider city, its map still suggests a village that kept growing instead of a planned suburb. Streets wind and branch, following old lanes and the rise of the land.
The south of the area drops toward the Aire and its wooded banks, while the ground rises northward toward Leeds Bradford Airport, whose runway is visible just past the edge of town.
