Huanuni is in the department of Oruro, in the Bolivian highlands, at a very high altitude on the edge of the Altiplano. The town is best known for the Huanuni mine, the largest tin mine in Bolivia, run by the state mining company COMIBOL. For generations, mining has shaped both its economy and its layout.
On a map the town is squeezed into a valley. Streets run along the river and climb the lower slopes in short, steep steps. Mine buildings and workings sit close to the houses, and roads lead up the hillsides to the work sites. Around it the terrain is bare and rugged, with few roads beyond the main route toward Oruro.
A Huanuni map poster shows a town shaped by the ground and the work beneath it. The compact, stretched outline follows the valley. The empty mountains around it give the print a stark, dramatic quality. For mining families and people from Oruro department, the image carries strong meaning, and the line of the river gives the composition a clear direction.
Houses and streets fill a narrow valley floor and form a long, compact settlement that the surrounding slopes have shaped.
Roads and sites linked to the tin mine climb the hillsides next to the town and show the industry at its core.
The high, treeless terrain around the town is mostly empty on the map, which sets the dense settlement apart.

Aiheā Huanuni
Huanuni's identity is closely tied to its miners and their families, many of whom have moved to Oruro, La Paz or abroad. A map of the town is a strong reminder of where they come from.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, for example with a family name or a year. Choose from five styles, including Noir for a darker look. HD files for $9 come in six print sizes.
