Ijero-Ekiti lies in the north-west of Ekiti State in south-western Nigeria, in a landscape of granite hills and rock outcrops typical of the region. The town is the headquarters of Ijero Local Government Area, and its layout follows the terrain. Main roads run through the centre and out toward neighbouring towns, while smaller streets fill the slopes and valleys between them.
Like many Yoruba towns, Ijero is traditionally centred on the palace of its king, the Ajero, with markets and older compounds close by. Newer residential areas have grown outward along the roads. The town's shape therefore reflects both an old core and more recent, looser expansion into the surrounding farmland and bush.
An Ijero-Ekiti map poster shows this without embellishment: a knot of streets at the centre, routes leading out like spokes, and the gaps left by hills and open land. The result is a quiet, organic composition, very different from a planned grid, and a fitting print for anyone with roots in the town.
The oldest part of town forms a dense cluster of short, irregular streets. The palace, the markets and long-established family compounds are concentrated here.
Main roads leave the centre in several directions and link Ijero with other communities in Ekiti and beyond. They give the map its clear radiating structure.
Ekiti is known for its hills. Around Ijero, the rocky, uneven ground decides where streets can run, which leaves open spaces and curving roads across the map.
