Kahrīzak sits just south of Tehran, where the capital's dense urban fabric gives way to open land. On a map it reads as a transition zone. Major roads head south toward Qom and the international airport, with blocks of housing and industry along them and flatter, emptier ground beyond. The town's own streets form a compact grid within that larger network.
The town is widely known in Iran as the home of the Kahrizak Charity Foundation, a long-established institution that cares for elderly and disabled people. Just to the north lies Behesht-e Zahra, Tehran's largest cemetery, whose vast regular layout is clearly visible from above. A Kahrīzak map poster shows the town together with these surroundings on the edge of the capital.
The name derives from kahriz, the Persian word for qanat, recalling the underground channels that once watered this plain. In black and white the freeways become sweeping lines, the town's grid a fine mesh between them and the cemetery a striking pattern of its own. It is a map about edges, where a metropolis ends and the plateau begins.
Highways leading from Tehran toward Qom and the airport pass close to town. On the poster they form bold, sweeping lines that set the scale of the whole composition.
Tehran's main cemetery lies just north of Kahrīzak. Its enormous, evenly divided plots make one of the most distinctive geometric shapes on the map.
Kahrīzak's own streets form a tight, orderly pattern within the wider road network. This dense area stands out against the open land to the south.
