Kearns lies on the western side of the Salt Lake Valley in Utah. Its streets follow the numbered grid that organises much of the valley, so the map is a steady pattern of east–west and north–south roads. Residential blocks fill the squares between them, with parks and school grounds as open spaces. To the west, the land starts rising toward the Oquirrh Mountains.
The community started during the Second World War as Camp Kearns, an Army Air Forces training base. After the war the site became housing. The name comes from Thomas Kearns, a mining businessman and US senator. Kearns is also home to the Utah Olympic Oval, the speed-skating venue built for the 2002 Winter Games.
A Kearns map poster shows how regular the valley's planning is. Wide arterials divide the land into large squares, smaller streets curve inside each square, and the large roof and grounds of the Olympic Oval stand out among the houses. It makes a clean, balanced composition that works well in a plain black-and-white style.
Arterial roads follow the Salt Lake Valley's numbered grid, so Kearns is divided into large, even squares. Each one is filled with smaller residential streets.
The 2002 Winter Olympics speed-skating venue is one of the largest single footprints in the community. Its grounds show as a broad open shape among the surrounding blocks.
West of Kearns the land starts climbing toward the Oquirrh Mountains. The street pattern becomes thinner toward that edge before the slopes begin.

A Kearns poster works for anyone who grew up on these west-side streets, trained at the Oval or bought a first home in the valley. The regular grid is easy to read on a wall, and it is quick to find a particular block on it.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can be changed to show a family name, a date or the exact location of a house. Five styles are available: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. You can order a printed poster or download the HD files for $9.
