Ken Caryl is a community in Jefferson County, Colorado, on the southwestern edge of the Denver metropolitan area. It grew around the Ken-Caryl Ranch development, where homes were set among open space at the very base of the Rocky Mountain foothills. From above, the edge of the city meets the edge of the mountains here with unusual clarity.
The layout is suburban but not a grid. Streets curve and loop along the terrain, cul-de-sacs follow ridges and draws, and large areas of protected open space separate neighbourhoods. To the west, the long sandstone ridge of the Dakota Hogback and the red rock formations beyond mark a sharp natural boundary.
A Ken Caryl map poster shows this meeting point in a clean, graphic way. The dense tracery of residential streets stops abruptly where the foothills begin, and ridge lines and trails take over. In black and white, the curving roads read like contour lines, a pattern that works especially well in larger print sizes.
The western edge of the community presses against the hogback and red rock country, a sudden transition from streets to open slopes on the map.
Loops and cul-de-sacs follow the rolling ground, creating a flowing texture very different from the straight grid of central Denver.
Wide areas of protected land run between neighbourhoods, leaving deliberate empty spaces that give the poster room to breathe.

Aiheā Ken Caryl
Ken Caryl residents tend to feel strongly about the place: the trails, the rock formations, the view back toward the plains. A map of the neighbourhood makes a thoughtful housewarming or moving-away gift.
