Koumassi is one of the communes of Abidjan, on the southern side of the Ébrié Lagoon, which divides Ivory Coast's economic capital into separate pieces of land. It borders Marcory and Port-Bouët and faces the lagoon along much of its edge. As a result, a map of the commune is framed by water on more than one side.
The residential areas follow a largely regular plan, with long straight streets and repeating blocks that give the commune an orderly texture. An industrial zone occupies part of the district, and busy markets and bus stations punctuate the grid. The main roads carry traffic between the city centre, the port and the airport further south.
A Koumassi map poster shows the commune as residents know it: the blocks and markets, the main boulevards, and the lagoon that is never far away. In black and white, the contrast between the tight street pattern and the open water is especially clear. That makes it a strong print for anyone with roots in this part of Abidjan.
The lagoon wraps the commune's edge with a soft, irregular shoreline. It gives the map open space and separates Koumassi from the districts across the water.
Long, parallel streets divide the residential quarters into repeated blocks. The disciplined pattern reads clearly at every print size, from A3 up to 24×36″.
Larger plots of warehouses and factories break the fine residential grain into broader, simpler shapes, adding a change of scale within the commune.

Many Abidjan families have lived in Koumassi for generations. For those who have moved abroad, a map of the commune is a strong link to home, and it makes a thoughtful gift for relatives who still live there.
