Kreischberg lies in the district of Murau in Styria, on the southern side of the upper Mur valley. From above, the mountain rises from the valley floor in a broad, rounded shape, covered in forest cut through by ski runs. The river Mur flows along its base, followed closely by the road and a narrow-gauge railway.
The resort hosted the FIS Freestyle Ski and Snowboarding World Championships in 2015, and it is known for its terrain parks. On the map, these facilities are part of a compact ski area spread across the mountain face, with lift lines running straight up from the valley.
