Le Grand-Bornand has two centres. The old village lies on the valley floor beside the Borne, around its church and market square. Le Chinaillon sits higher up the valley at the foot of the ski slopes. On a map the road between them draws a clear line from one to the other, with farms and chalets dotted along the way.
This is reblochon country, and the village still holds a weekly market where the cheese is sold. The commune is also known for hosting stages of the biathlon World Cup in its valley stadium. The Tour de France has passed through several times on the way to the Col de la Colombière.
A Le Grand-Bornand map poster captures a valley where houses stay loose and spread out. There is no dense grid. The lines follow streams and slopes, and the open ground between them is as much part of the picture as the streets. The Aravis and Bornes ranges frame the edges and give the valley its enclosed shape.
The river runs through the old village with the main streets gathered close along its banks. It then heads down its own valley toward the Arve.
The upper hamlet has its own small layout of chalets and lift bases. It forms a second point on the map and shows how the resort grew up toward the snow.
Beyond Le Chinaillon the road climbs toward the Col de la Colombière, a classic cycling pass that links the valley with the Arve side of the mountains.

Aiheā Le Grand-Bornand
People who ski here as a family, follow the biathlon or spend summers walking the pastures will recognise the two-part shape of the valley at once. It makes a quiet, personal picture for a chalet wall or a hallway at home.
