Leander lies in Williamson and Travis counties, northwest of Austin, where the flat blackland prairie begins to give way to the limestone hills of the Texas Hill Country. It began as a railroad town in the 1880s, named after Leander Brown, a railway official, and for most of the twentieth century it remained small.
That changed with the growth of the Austin region, and Leander became one of the fastest-growing cities in the United States. From above, the result is unmistakable: dozens of master-planned neighbourhoods with looping streets and cul-de-sacs, each connected to a handful of arterials such as US 183 and the 183A toll road.
The old town is a small grid near the railway, which today carries the Capital MetroRail Red Line to its northern terminus in Leander. A Leander map poster shows both layers at once: the original railroad blocks, the branching pattern of the newer suburbs, and the green creek corridors between them.
Curving residential streets split into loops and cul-de-sacs, forming leaf-like clusters that fill much of the map and give it an organic, almost botanical look.
A compact grid near the tracks marks the original town, and the commuter rail line from Austin ends here, a straight line cutting through the newer curves.
The toll road and US 183 run north to south through the city, the clearest structural lines on the print and the routes most residents use daily.

Aiheā Leander
Many Leander residents are recent arrivals who bought a first home in one of the new neighbourhoods. A map of the streets around that house, marked with the move-in date, makes a personal housewarming gift or a first piece of art for the wall.
Set the title and subtitle, edit the coordinates line, and choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The $9 download covers six sizes including 18×24″ and 24×36″, or you can order a printed poster with an optional wooden frame.
