Maracaju is a municipality in Mato Grosso do Sul, in Brazil's centre-west, lying southwest of the state capital, Campo Grande. It shares its name with the Serra de Maracaju, the range of uplands running across the state, and it sits on open, elevated country given over largely to large-scale agriculture, especially soybeans and corn. The town is a service centre for this farming region.
On the map, Maracaju appears as a neat, regular grid of streets, wide and evenly spaced in the manner of many planned towns of the Brazilian interior. Beyond the last blocks, the landscape changes into a mosaic of enormous fields, their straight edges forming a geometric patchwork. Highways and country roads cut long, direct lines across the plateau toward neighbouring towns.
A Maracaju map poster emphasises this remarkable order: the tidy urban grid at the centre and the larger geometric pattern of the farmland around it. In black and white, the composition feels almost abstract, like a study in lines and rectangles. It suits people from Maracaju and those whose lives are tied to farming in the centre-west.
Maracaju's streets form a clear, regular grid of evenly spaced blocks, giving the town an orderly shape that is easy to read at any poster size.
Huge fields surround the town, their straight boundaries creating a bold geometric patchwork that extends the logic of the grid into the countryside.
Long, direct roads run across the flat plateau toward Campo Grande and other towns, strong straight lines that tie the town to the wider region.
