Mendī is a town in the western part of the Oromia region of Ethiopia. It serves the farming communities around it as a local market and administrative centre, in highland country that slopes westward toward lower land near the Sudanese border.
On the map the town is compact. Its streets gather around a few main routes, and houses thin out quickly into the countryside. Past the edge of town, the landscape takes over: rolling ground, fields and scattered homesteads, linked by tracks and minor roads. Watercourses cut down through the land, following the slope of the terrain.
