Kitadake within limits
Japan's second-highest mountain lies inside the city's western territory. Around it, the map is almost empty of roads, and that emptiness frames the settled lowland to the east.

Minamiarupusu, or Minami-Alps, was formed in 2003 when several towns and villages in western Yamanashi merged. It took its name from the Southern Alps, the mountain range that fills its western half. On a map, the city splits into two very different parts. In the east, a flat fan of farmland and settlements opens onto the Kofu Basin. In the west, contour-tight mountain terrain is crossed by only a few roads.
The eastern lowland sits on an alluvial fan built by rivers coming down from the mountains. Here the map shows scattered villages, winding farm roads and the fine subdivisions of orchards. The area is known for fruit, including cherries, peaches and plums. In the west, the network almost disappears. Kitadake, Japan's second-highest peak, stands inside the city limits.
A Minamiarupusu map poster captures that shift from settled plain to high range in a single frame. The lines are densest along the basin edge and thin out to a few threads as they climb into the valleys. On the page, this looks like the city is fading into the mountains, which is roughly what it does.
Japan's second-highest mountain lies inside the city's western territory. Around it, the map is almost empty of roads, and that emptiness frames the settled lowland to the east.
The eastern districts spread across a gently sloping fan of river deposits. Small roads and orchard plots make a fine, irregular mesh there, quite unlike an urban grid.
Several rivers leave the mountains and cross the fan toward the Kofu Basin. Their wide, braided beds run through the farmland as pale bands.

This is a map for people who know the place through its seasons: blossom in the orchards, summer trips to trailheads, the ridge line seen from the basin. It also works as a quiet mountain print for anyone drawn to Japan's high country.
Personalise the title and subtitle, for example with a hiking date or a hometown's old village name, and adjust the coordinates line. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Paper and Sand bring out the soft rural texture.
