Ottobrunn lies just outside Munich's south-eastern city limits, on the flat gravel plain around the Bavarian capital. It grew from a small settlement into a sizeable suburb during the twentieth century, and the map shows it. The residential streets follow a clear, planned pattern, mostly straight and evenly spaced, with few of the irregular lanes found in older Bavarian villages.
The main axis is the Rosenheimer Landstraße, which runs straight through the town toward Munich. On either side, houses and low apartment buildings fill the blocks at a regular rhythm, broken up by schools, sports grounds and small parks. To the south, woodland begins, and the neat urban pattern gives way to the darker mass of forest on the gravel plain.
The town takes its name from Prince Otto of Bavaria, who became the first King of Greece. The Ottosäule, a memorial column, marks where he said farewell to his family in 1832 before leaving for Greece. Ottobrunn later became a major site for German aerospace engineering. An Ottobrunn bei München map poster captures the orderly suburb that grew from those beginnings.
The long, straight road through the town is the backbone of the map. It links Ottobrunn directly with Munich and organises the streets on either side.
Parallel and crossing streets create a calm, repeating pattern of blocks. This typical twentieth-century suburban plan looks crisp and balanced in black and white.
The column commemorating Prince Otto's departure for Greece is a small point on the map, but it holds the story behind the town's name.
