Streets on slopes
Many streets curve and switch direction to follow the hills, producing a flowing, irregular pattern that looks distinctly different from a flat grid town.

Ouro Fino lies in the south of Minas Gerais, close to the border with São Paulo state, in hilly country at the edge of the Serra da Mantiqueira region. Its name, meaning fine gold, recalls the colonial period when gold drew settlers into the interior of Minas. The terrain still shapes the town today, and nothing about its map is flat or regular.
From above, the streets follow the contours of the land. Roads bend around hillsides and descend into valleys, and the town spreads in uneven arms rather than a neat block. Watercourses run through the lower ground, and green hills close in around the edges, giving the built area an organic, branching outline.
An Ouro Fino map poster captures this relationship between town and terrain. In fine black lines, the curving streets read almost like a drawing of the hills themselves. It is a map with movement in it, well suited to a place whose character comes from its setting in the uplands of southern Minas.
Many streets curve and switch direction to follow the hills, producing a flowing, irregular pattern that looks distinctly different from a flat grid town.
Lower areas along the local watercourses gather some of the denser blocks, while the town climbs away from them in narrower, winding arms.
Hills and farmland enclose the town on all sides, leaving open space around the map's edges that emphasises the town's branching, organic shape.
