Payakaraopeta lies on the coastal plain of northern Andhra Pradesh, on the bank of the Tandava River. The town of Tuni is directly across the river, and on a map the two read as one settlement divided by water and joined by road and rail bridges. The Tandava's broad sandy bed runs between them, a pale, open strip through the middle of the built-up area.
The national highway between Chennai and Kolkata and the main east coast railway both pass through, making this an important crossing point on India's eastern seaboard. Around the town, paddy fields, coconut groves and irrigation channels create a flat, finely divided landscape, and the Bay of Bengal is only a short distance to the east.
The centre is compact, with market streets close to the river and housing spreading outward along the roads. A Payakaraopeta map poster shows how the town and its neighbour mirror each other across the Tandava. The result is a simple, strong composition for anyone with family ties to this stretch of the Andhra coast.
The wide, sandy bed of the Tandava separates Payakaraopeta from Tuni. It is drawn as an open band through the middle of an otherwise continuous urban area.
Across the river, Tuni mirrors Payakaraopeta's street pattern. Together the two towns form a balanced composition, joined by bridges carrying road and rail traffic.
Flat fields, groves and irrigation channels surround the town. Their fine, regular texture frames the dense centre on the map.
