Kavvayi backwaters
West of the town, lagoons and narrow islands form an intricate pattern of land and water. On the poster they create delicate, interlocking shapes that fill the coastal edge.

Payyanur sits in Kannur district near the northern tip of Kerala, a few kilometres inland from the Arabian Sea. The land is low and heavily planted, and from above the town's roads twist through dense palm groves rather than following a grid. Rivers and tidal channels wind toward the coast, and the backwaters around Kavvayi break the land into slender islands and strips.
The town holds a notable place in India's independence movement. In 1930, during the salt satyagraha, volunteers marched to the shore near Payyanur to make salt in defiance of colonial law. Temples and old family compounds are scattered among the lanes, and the traditional Payyanur pavithra ring, a sacred piece of jewellery, is still associated with the town.
A Payyanur map poster captures the gentle, irregular geometry of a Malabar town: a main road and railway running roughly north to south, branching lanes that follow the terrain, and the complex water edges to the west. South along the coast lies Ezhimala, home to the Indian Naval Academy, where the land rises into a prominent headland.
West of the town, lagoons and narrow islands form an intricate pattern of land and water. On the poster they create delicate, interlocking shapes that fill the coastal edge.
The coastal railway and main road run through Payyanur roughly parallel, giving the looser street network a clear central axis on the map.
Away from the centre, lanes curve through groves and around ponds and temple grounds. Drawn in thin lines, they give the map a soft, organic texture.

Aiheā Payyanur
For families from North Malabar, or anyone who has spent time along this coast, Payyanur means backwaters, temples and a strong local history. A map is a calm way to keep that connection visible, especially far from Kerala.
You can set your own title and subtitle, such as a family house name or a date, and edit the coordinates line. Five styles are available: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. HD files cost $9, with no watermark and six print sizes included.
