Te mape
Primero de Enero lies in the eastern part of Ciego de Ávila Province, in the broad lowlands that cross central Cuba. From above, the town is a tidy cluster of blocks, with a few longer roads leading out into the surrounding farmland. Past the last houses the map opens into large rectangular fields, farm tracks and scattered settlements, a pattern typical of the agricultural country in the middle of the island.
The name means First of January. It refers to 1 January 1959, the day the Cuban Revolution took power, and several places on the island carry names tied to that date. The town is the seat of a municipality of the same name. It works as an administrative centre for the villages and farms spread across the plain rather than as a destination in its own right.
A Primero de Enero map poster suits this kind of landscape well. There are no mountains or coastline to dominate the frame, so the composition rests on the street grid itself, the thin lines of the rural roads and the rhythm of the field boundaries around them. In black and white the result is quiet and geometric, closer to a surveyor's plan than a tourist map.
The town core is a compact grid of short blocks. It gives the centre of the poster a dense, even texture that stands apart from the open land around it.
Several roads run straight out of town across the flat plain toward neighbouring villages and fields, drawing long, clean lines out to the edges of the frame.
The province is mostly low and level. Around the town, the map is shaped by field edges, tracks and small watercourses rather than relief, which suits a minimalist treatment.
