Te mape
Rubidoux sits on the west bank of the Santa Ana River, across from the city of Riverside in Southern California's Inland Empire. Long an unincorporated community, it became part of the newly formed city of Jurupa Valley in 2011. On a map its streets form a practical grid of residential blocks and commercial strips, interrupted where the ground rises into rocky hills or drops toward the river.
The community takes its name from Louis Rubidoux, a nineteenth-century landowner in the area, and the same name belongs to Mount Rubidoux, the granite hill just across the river in Riverside, known for the road that spirals to its summit. The Santa Ana itself appears as a broad band of riverbed and vegetation, a natural border drawn between the two cities.
A Rubidoux map poster brings out the contrast between these elements: the measured suburban grid, the irregular shapes of the hills, and the wide, meandering channel of the river running along one side. It is a very Southern Californian composition, where freeways, washes and boulder-strewn slopes all leave their mark on the pattern of the streets.
The river forms a wide, soft-edged band along the community's eastern side, with sandy channels and vegetation separating Rubidoux from Riverside.
Much of the community is laid out in straight residential blocks, broken by larger commercial parcels along the main roads and a few curving newer subdivisions.
Rocky outcrops rise at the edges of the grid, forcing streets to curve and stop, and leaving blank patches that give the map its rhythm.

Aiheā Rubidoux
Rubidoux has a strong local identity that predates the city it now belongs to, and many long-time residents still call it by its own name. A map honours that, whether it hangs in a family home or goes with someone who has moved away.
Add a title, a subtitle such as the year you moved in, and your coordinates. Five styles are on offer, Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand, as $9 HD files in six print sizes or as a printed poster.
