Sabirabad lies on the broad Kura–Aras lowland in central Azerbaijan, close to where the country's two largest rivers meet. The land is completely flat, and the town has a regular layout of straight streets and rectangular blocks. Around it, irrigation channels and field boundaries continue the same geometry into the countryside, forming neat lines that extend in every direction.
The confluence of the Kura and the Aras is the main feature of the local geography. The rivers bring the water that makes farming possible in an otherwise dry plain, and cotton and grain have long been important crops. The town and district are named after Mirza Alakbar Sabir, the early twentieth-century satirical poet whose work remains widely read in Azerbaijan.
A Sabirabad map poster shows the orderly town grid and the rivers that shape the land around it. The Kura's winding course contrasts with the straight streets and field lines. The result is a balanced composition of natural curves and planned geometry, typical of Azerbaijan's lowlands.
Azerbaijan's two great rivers meet close to Sabirabad, and their winding channels add strong curves to a landscape otherwise made of straight lines.
Straight streets and rectangular blocks form a clear grid across the flat ground, printing with a clean, orderly rhythm.
Channels and field boundaries continue the town's geometry into the surrounding plain, a network made possible by water from the rivers.
