Sandefjord lies at the inner end of Sandefjordsfjorden in Vestfold, on the western side of the Oslofjord region. From above, the fjord reaches deep into the land like a narrow blade and ends at the harbour, where the town centre gathers. Streets fan out from the waterfront and rise gently onto the surrounding slopes, and wooded ridges and farmland close in around the edges.
For much of the twentieth century this was the centre of Norway's modern whaling industry, and the town still keeps that memory in its Whaling Monument and whaling museum. A Sandefjord map poster shows the setting that made that history possible: a sheltered, deep-water inlet with easy access to the open sea beyond the islands at the mouth of the fjord.
The area's past goes back much further. The Gokstad ship, one of the best-preserved Viking ships ever found, was excavated from a burial mound just outside the town in 1880. On the map, old farm roads, a ring of newer residential districts and a shoreline full of coves and small points combine into a layered, detailed composition.
Sandefjordsfjorden narrows toward the town centre and gives the map a clear focal point, where the water ends and the harbour quays, ferry berths and main streets begin.
Small bays, headlands and islets line both sides of the fjord, so the coast reads as an intricate, irregular edge rather than a single clean curve.
Residential streets climb away from the harbour in curving loops. They follow the terrain and thin out into woodland and fields as the land rises inland.

Aiheā Sandefjord
People hang Sandefjord because of a summer house by the fjord, a family connection to the whaling years, or simply because it is home and has an outline no one mistakes. The long inlet makes a striking shape in black and white, recognisable even without the name.
Personalise the title and subtitle, perhaps with a year or a street name, and decide whether to show the coordinates line. The five styles range from Classic black & white and Noir to the warmer Paper and Sand and the cool Blueprint.
