Santiago del Estero was founded in 1553 and is considered the oldest continuously existing city in Argentina, which is why it is known as the Mother of Cities. On the map its centre is a classic Spanish colonial grid of square blocks arranged around Plaza Libertad, where the cathedral and government buildings stand around the main square.
The Río Dulce runs along the eastern side of the city, a wide, shallow river with sandbanks that shift with the seasons. Between the grid and the water lies Parque Aguirre, a long green strip that softens the edge of the city. Across the river, La Banda forms a twin city, joined to Santiago by bridges.
Beyond the built-up area the land is flat and dry in every direction, part of the Gran Chaco region. A Santiago del Estero map poster shows a city of remarkable regularity, where the only strong curve is the river, and where centuries of expansion have extended the same orthogonal blocks outward from the original plaza toward the plains.
The main square marks the heart of the original colonial grid, surrounded by the cathedral and public buildings, with even blocks repeating outward in every direction.
The wide, braided river forms the city's eastern edge, its channels and sandbanks drawn as a loose, organic band against the rigid streets.
A long riverside park stretches between the city and the Río Dulce, a broad green buffer that gives the poster a calm, open edge.

Aiheā Santiago del Estero
A map of Santiago del Estero is about roots: many Argentinians trace their families back to the oldest city in the country. Its regular grid and river make a clear, grounded composition for a home or office.
The title, subtitle and coordinates can be personalised with names, a founding year or a date of your own. Choose from five styles; Sand evokes the dry plains, while Blueprint makes the colonial grid especially sharp.
