Seymour was laid out in the 1850s at the point where two early railroad lines crossed, and the map still records that origin. Tracks cut straight through town, and the blocks around them follow a tidy, regular grid. The older commercial streets sit close to the crossing, while residential rows spread outward and gradually give way to the open, level fields of Jackson County.
Larger roads frame the picture. U.S. 50 runs east to west through the city, and Interstate 65 passes along its eastern side, adding a band of wider roads, interchanges and broad commercial lots. To the southwest, the runways of the former Freeman Field, a Second World War training base, form a sharp geometric pattern of long straight strips that stands out clearly against the surrounding farmland.
Beyond Indiana, Seymour is known as the hometown of musician John Mellencamp. Railroad history also found it early: in 1866 the Reno Gang carried out one of the first train robberies in the United States near the town. A Seymour map poster reduces all of this to black lines on a pale ground, from the rail crossing and street grid to the highways and the airfield, a quiet portrait of a small city shaped by transport.

Southwest of the centre, the runways of a former wartime airfield cross one another in wide, angular strokes. Their scale and straightness make them one of the most striking shapes on the map.
Interstate 65 runs along the eastern side of the city, its interchanges and ramps drawing looping curves that contrast with the square blocks of the older neighbourhoods to the west.

Aiheā Seymour
For people who grew up here, went to school here or still pass through on the interstate, Seymour's crossed tracks and even blocks are instantly familiar. The map works as a reminder of home in a single frame, clean enough for a hallway, an office or a gift for someone who has moved away.
