Te mape
Shakopee sits on the Minnesota River southwest of Minneapolis, in Scott County. The historic downtown lies close to the water on a simple grid of short blocks. Newer neighbourhoods spread across the higher ground to the south, in the curving streets and cul-de-sacs typical of recent suburban growth. The map records both eras side by side.
The city is named after Shakpe, a Dakota leader whose village stood nearby, and the river valley has long been a crossing point. Today Shakopee is also known for Valleyfair amusement park and Canterbury Park racetrack, both of which appear on the map as large open shapes. A Shakopee map poster shows the city from its riverfront to its outer ring of subdivisions.
The Minnesota River gives structure to the northern edge of the map, with a broad floodplain of wetlands and backwaters along its course. Highways cross the valley on long bridges, linking Shakopee with the rest of the Twin Cities. Together, the river, the grid and the suburban curves make a varied, well-balanced poster.

Wetlands, channels and backwaters line the Minnesota River along the city's northern edge, drawn as soft, irregular shapes on the poster.
Newer neighbourhoods on the higher ground use curving streets and cul-de-sacs, forming rounded patterns that fill much of the southern half of the map.
