Sham Shui Po occupies the north-western part of Kowloon, and from above it is one of the densest street grids in Hong Kong. Narrow rectangular blocks run between parallel streets, packed with tenement buildings and shop fronts, while the western edge extends onto reclaimed land toward Cheung Sha Wan and the container terminals. To the north and east the grid meets the slopes that rise toward the Kowloon hills.
The district has a central place in the history of Hong Kong housing. After the Shek Kip Mei fire of 1953 left tens of thousands of people homeless, the government began building resettlement estates, the start of the territory's large public housing programme. Those estates still shape the map, with long slab blocks set at angles to the older grid.
Street by street, the district is known for specialised trades: Apliu Street for electronics and second-hand goods, and nearby streets for fabrics, buttons and trims. On a Sham Shui Po map poster this density becomes a fine, almost textile pattern of lines, framed by the reclaimed waterfront on one side and the green edge of the hills on the other.
Parallel streets and narrow blocks form a regular, very fine grid in the heart of the district, one of the most tightly woven urban patterns anywhere in Kowloon.
The public housing estates on the eastern side, built after the 1953 fire, appear as larger blocks set on the hillside, breaking the rhythm of the older tenement streets.
Toward the west, land reclaimed from the harbour carries wider roads, flyovers and newer housing, giving the map a clear boundary between the historic grid and the modern edge.

Aiheā Sham Shui Po
Sham Shui Po is the kind of place people carry with them: the market they walked through as children, the flat above a shop, the estate where grandparents lived. A detailed map keeps that neighbourhood in sight wherever life has moved.
Personalise the poster with a title in your own words, a subtitle such as an estate or street name, and the coordinates line. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, and order a matte print with an optional wooden frame.
