Shenkottai, also written Sengottai, lies in Tenkasi district in the far southwest of Tamil Nadu, right at the foot of the Western Ghats. The plains stop abruptly here. On the map, the town sits where flat farmland meets the steep forested ranges that separate Tamil Nadu from Kerala.
