Shōranūr is a town in the Palakkad district of Kerala, on the banks of the Bharathapuzha, one of the state's longest rivers. It is best known as a railway junction: several major lines meet here, connecting the Malabar coast with central Kerala and routes toward Tamil Nadu. For many travellers the name is familiar before the town itself.
On a map, the railway is the town's most visible feature. Tracks converge from several directions and fan out into yards, and roads and neighbourhoods fill the spaces between them. The Bharathapuzha runs alongside in a wide, braided channel, its sandbanks and shifting streams forming soft shapes that contrast with the straight rails.
A Shōranūr map poster captures a junction town in its landscape. The rail lines cut crisp paths through the composition, the river curves broadly past, and the green hills of the district rise around the edges. Across the river lies Cheruthuruthy, home of Kerala Kalamandalam, the renowned school for Kathakali and other classical arts.

The broad river runs beside the town. Its wide bed, channels and sandbanks form an organic band beside the straight railway lines.
Across the river, Cheruthuruthy is home to Kerala Kalamandalam, linking this crossing point to Kerala's classical performing arts tradition.
