Staines, officially Staines-upon-Thames since 2012, lies on the north bank of the Thames just beyond the western edge of Greater London. The river defines the whole composition: it sweeps past the town, runs under Staines Bridge and continues downstream toward Laleham, while the River Colne and its side channels thread down from the meadows to the north to join it.
Around the compact town centre, the map fills with large geometric shapes. The Staines reservoirs and the King George VI Reservoir sit to the north-east as raised, hard-edged basins, the M25 curves along the western side, and the railway heads off toward Windsor and Reading. Few towns this size are surrounded by so much engineered water.
The crossing here is old. The Romans called the settlement Pontes, meaning bridges, and the London Stone by the river once marked the upstream limit of the City of London's authority over the Thames. A Staines map poster brings those layers together: river, bridge, waterworks and road, all drawn in quiet black lines.
The granite bridge carries the main road across the Thames at the heart of town, at a crossing point used in some form since Roman times, and anchors the whole map.
North-east of the centre, the Staines reservoirs and King George VI Reservoir appear as bold, straight-edged shapes, among the most striking man-made water features around London.
The Thames bends broadly past the town while the Colne and its channels branch through the meadows to the north, giving the poster a soft, flowing rhythm.

Aiheā Staines
Commuters, rowers and anyone who grew up between the Thames and Heathrow know Staines as a place defined by water. A map of it makes a thoughtful gift for a new home by the river, a move away from the area, or simply a reminder of Sunday walks along the towpath.
The poster can carry your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, and comes in five styles, from Classic black & white and Noir to Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Blueprint suits the reservoirs and bridges particularly well. Download the $9 HD files or order a framed print.
