Six town centres
Tunstall, Burslem, Hanley, Stoke, Fenton and Longton each keep a recognisable cluster of streets, so the map reads as a string of beads rather than one centre.

Stoke-on-Trent is not one town but six: Tunstall, Burslem, Hanley, Stoke, Fenton and Longton, federated in 1910. On the map they appear as a chain of distinct centres, each with its own knot of streets, strung from north to south and linked by roads that once joined separate pottery communities. With no single core, a Stoke-on-Trent map poster has an unusually polycentric rhythm.
The Trent and Mersey Canal winds through the valley, joined by the Caldon Canal near Etruria, and the River Trent flows through the city not far from its source. Long terraced streets, built for workers in the ceramics industry, fill the spaces between the old centres in tight rows that print as a fine, even texture.
The city became synonymous with pottery, home to makers such as Wedgwood, Spode and Royal Doulton, and surviving bottle kilns still mark the townscape. Parks and reclaimed industrial land open wide spaces on the map, while the A500 dual carriageway traces a firm line along the western side, tying the six towns together.
Tunstall, Burslem, Hanley, Stoke, Fenton and Longton each keep a recognisable cluster of streets, so the map reads as a string of beads rather than one centre.
The Trent and Mersey and Caldon canals weave through the valley, thin continuous lines that once carried clay and finished pottery to the rest of the country.
Rows of Victorian terraces pack the land between the towns, forming dense parallel patterns that give the poster its fine, textile-like grain.

For anyone with roots in the Potteries, this map shows the six towns as they really are: separate places sharing one name. It suits collectors of ceramics and industrial history as much as people who simply grew up here.
Change the title to your own town, add a date in the subtitle and adjust the coordinates line, then pick one of five styles, with Paper and Sand giving a warmer finish. Prints on matte paper ship from partners in over 30 countries.
