Suining Map Poster
Suining lies in central Sichuan, roughly between Chengdu and Chongqing, among the rolling hills of the Sichuan Basin. The Fu River flows through the city from north to south, and from above it is the clearest feature on the map. It is a broad, gently curving band of water, with the city gathered on both banks and joined by several bridges.
Because the land is hilly rather than flat, the street pattern is less regular than in cities on the northern plains. Main roads run along the river and through the valleys, and newer districts with larger blocks spread onto higher ground. Parks and wooded hilltops remain as open shapes inside the built-up area, so the map is a patchwork of dense streets and green space.
Suining is associated with Guanyin, the bodhisattva of compassion, and Guangde Temple on the city's edge is an old and important Buddhist site.
