Superior sits at the far western end of Lake Superior, facing Duluth across the waters of St. Louis Bay and Superior Bay. The two cities together are known as the Twin Ports, one of the major harbours of the Great Lakes. From above, the city is a broad, regular grid of streets that runs down to a shoreline cut into slips, docks and industrial piers.
The most striking line on the map is Wisconsin Point, a thin spit of sand that runs along the lake. With Minnesota Point opposite, it almost closes off the harbour. The Nemadji River winds in from the south-east before reaching the bay, and two long highway bridges cross the water to Duluth as straight lines over open space.
A Superior map poster keeps all of this in fine black line: the grid, the rail corridors, the harbour edge and the pale expanse of the lake. Large stretches of forest and wetland on the city's outskirts show up as quiet open space, which gives the composition room around the denser centre and makes the waterfront the clear subject.
A narrow sandbar runs along the lake shore and nearly closes the harbour mouth. On the print it forms a clean curve between open lake and sheltered bay.
Slips, docks and piers break the shoreline into a comb of rectangles. This is the working edge of a port Superior shares with Duluth on the Minnesota side.
Two long highway bridges cross the bay to Duluth. Their spans read as confident straight strokes over the blank water of the harbour.

Aiheā Superior
People who grew up in Superior, worked the docks or crossed those bridges every day tend to recognise the harbour outline at once. The map also suits anyone with ties to both sides of the Twin Ports, because it shows exactly where Wisconsin meets the lake.
You can set your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example a family name or the year you moved to the lake. Then choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint suits a port city defined by piers and shipping channels.
