Thun sits at the northwestern end of Lake Thun, in the canton of Bern, where the Aare flows out of the lake toward Bern. It is often seen as a gateway to the Bernese Oberland, and on a clear day the Alps rise beyond the water. The map is shaped by the lake, the river and the hill in the middle of town.
