Vakkam sits on the coast of Thiruvananthapuram district, on the kind of slender land that Kerala's shoreline is known for. From above, the town reads as a band of settlement held between two bodies of water: the open Arabian Sea on one side and calm backwater channels on the other. Lanes run lengthwise along this strip, crossed by short paths that lead down to the water.
On a map, that doubled edge gives the place its character. The sea line is smooth and continuous, while the backwater shore is irregular, broken by inlets, small islands and narrow channels. Between them the street pattern is fine-grained and informal, shaped by coconut groves and house plots rather than by any plan. A Vakkam map poster keeps this contrast crisp in black and white.
The town is widely remembered as the birthplace of Vakkom Moulavi, the early twentieth-century reformer, writer and publisher whose work on education and social change shaped modern Kerala. His name and the town's often appear together. For people with family roots here, the map carries that association alongside the more personal geography of homes, schools and the shoreline they grew up beside.
The Arabian Sea draws a clean line along one side of town, while the backwater edge opposite is ragged and indented, so the settlement appears as a strip framed by water.
Calm lagoons and connecting channels spread inland from the town, their irregular outlines and small islands giving the lower part of the poster a softer, more intricate texture.
Rather than a grid, Vakkam's streets follow plot boundaries and groves, forming a fine mesh of short lanes that runs parallel to the coast and branches toward the water.

Aiheā Vakkam
Places defined by water tend to make striking prints, and Vakkam's position between sea and lagoon is legible at a glance. It suits someone who grew up here, a family now living elsewhere in India or abroad, or anyone drawn to the particular geometry of the Kerala coast.
You can set your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps a family name or a year, and choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The $9 digital download includes six print sizes as 300 DPI PNG and PDF files without a watermark.
