Wallasey occupies the northeastern corner of the Wirral peninsula, and on a map it is almost surrounded by water. The Mersey estuary runs along the eastern side, the Irish Sea shapes the northern coast, and to the south the long enclosed basins of the docks separate the town from Birkenhead. Inside those edges, Victorian and interwar streets form a dense, fairly regular mesh.
The seafront at New Brighton was once one of the busiest resorts in the northwest of England, and Fort Perch Rock, a nineteenth-century coastal battery, still stands at the tip of the estuary. From Seacombe, the famous Mersey Ferries cross to Liverpool, and the Kingsway road tunnel runs beneath the river, linking Wallasey directly with the city opposite.
A Wallasey map poster frames a town defined by its shoreline. The long promenade traces the coast from Seacombe round to New Brighton and beyond, the docks add sharp rectangular shapes to the south, and the river gives the whole composition a wide, open side facing the Liverpool waterfront.
A continuous seafront path follows the coast from the river mouth westward, drawing a long clean line between the town and the water.
To the south, long rectangular docks form a band of hard-edged water between Wallasey and Birkenhead, among the most geometric shapes on the map.
The river fills the eastern edge of the poster, a broad expanse that separates the town from Liverpool and gives the layout a strong sense of openness.
