Westchester is a village in Cook County, west of Chicago, among the older inner suburbs that grew along the rail and road corridors leading out of the city. Its development began in the 1920s with an ambitious plan for an English-style community, although most of the village was built later, after the Second World War.
The map is typical of the Chicago suburbs and still has its own shape. Long straight roads follow the region's mile grid, while residential streets inside the blocks are sometimes gently curved. Along its edges, forest preserve land appears as large, loose shapes that contrast sharply with the neat housing.
