Residential streets run in close parallel rows. On the poster they create an even, rhythmic texture that shows how the area was planned.

Winnie Mandela is a township in the Free State, on the open highveld north of Bloemfontein. It carries the name of Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, who was banished to nearby Brandfort by the apartheid government in 1977 and lived there for years under restrictions. The name ties this small place directly to that chapter of the country's history.
From above, the township looks like many planned residential areas in South Africa. It has long rows of small plots, streets laid out in repeating blocks and a few wider roads connecting it to the neighbouring town. Around it, flat grassland and farmland run to the horizon with few interruptions.
A Winnie Mandela map poster shows that plain geometry clearly: tight parallel streets, the occasional open field or sports ground, and the gap between the township and the older town nearby. It is a quiet image, but it carries a lot of meaning.
Residential streets run in close parallel rows. On the poster they create an even, rhythmic texture that shows how the area was planned.
A small number of wider roads connect the township to the surrounding district. They stand out as stronger lines against the finer grid of residential streets.
Flat grassland surrounds the settlement on all sides. The empty space on the map reflects the broad, level landscape of the central Free State.
