Achocalla is a municipality in the La Paz Department, in a valley set just below the edge of the Altiplano near El Alto and the city of La Paz. The contrast in altitude is dramatic. The flat, dense grid of El Alto stops at an escarpment, and below it the land drops into a more sheltered, cultivated basin.
The valley is known for its lagoons and for its farms, which supply vegetables and dairy products to the nearby cities. From above, Achocalla does not look like a concentrated town.
