Al Ain Oasis
Near the city centre, the largest oasis forms a dense block of palm plantations crossed by narrow shaded paths and falaj channels. It stands out as a fine-grained patch among much wider modern roads.

Al Ain lies inland in the east of the Abu Dhabi emirate, beside the border with Oman. It grew around a cluster of oases that falaj channels have fed for centuries with water from the mountains, and the city kept that pattern as it expanded. From above, it reads as a set of districts separated by wide avenues and planted medians, with the old palm groves set inside the city rather than pushed to its edges.
The street plan is generous and open: long dual carriageways, large roundabouts along the main routes, and neighbourhoods of villas laid out in loose blocks. Buildings are kept low, so the map says more about the city than any skyline could. An Al Ain City map poster shows this spacing clearly. Broad roads loosen into desert at the margins, and a single winding road climbs the mountain to the south.
Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan governed the eastern region from Al Ain for two decades before he became the founding president of the UAE. The oases, the archaeological sites at Hili and the ancient tombs on the slopes of Jebel Hafeet together form a UNESCO World Heritage property. The city is also home to United Arab Emirates University, and its greenery has long earned it the name Garden City.

South of the city the mountain rises from the plain. The road to its summit traces a long series of switchbacks, one of the most distinctive lines on the whole map.
Large roundabouts mark the main avenues, turning the road network into a chain of rings. Straight, broad carriageways link them between the districts and out toward the desert.

For people who grew up in Al Ain, studied at the university or spent winters among its gardens, the map is a quiet reminder of wide roads, palm shade and the mountain on the horizon. Its open, spacious layout also works well on a wall and leaves room for the eye to rest.
