Al Mubarraz forms the northern half of the Al-Ahsa urban area in Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province, with Hofuf directly to the south. From above, the two cities merge into one continuous spread of wide avenues and large, regular residential blocks. It is the typical layout of a modern Gulf city planned around the car, with ring roads and highways connecting the districts.
What sets the city apart is the Al-Ahsa Oasis, often described as the largest palm oasis in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2018. Well over two million date palms, fed by springs and irrigation channels, press up against the urban edge, so dense palm groves, straight streets and open desert all appear in a single frame.

Twin city with Hofuf
Mubarraz and Hofuf have grown together into one metropolitan area. On a wider poster the join between them is barely visible, just a continuous field of blocks.
