Ala-Buka is the centre of a district in Jalal-Abad Region, in western Kyrgyzstan close to the border with Uzbekistan. It sits on the northwestern rim of the Fergana Valley, where flat irrigated land begins to rise towards the mountains. On a map, the town is a compact grid of streets surrounded by orchards, gardens and fields.
