Altamont is a census-designated place just southeast of Klamath Falls in southern Oregon. It lies on the broad, level floor of the Klamath Basin, and its map shows that flatness clearly: long straight roads, generous residential blocks and an orderly layout that fades gradually into agricultural fields on the outskirts.
Water shapes the area in a quieter way than it would in a river town. Irrigation canals of the Klamath Project run across the basin in long, gently curving lines, and they appear on the map as fine threads cutting through streets and fields. An Altamont map poster captures that interplay between the domestic grid and the engineered water network.
The wider setting is dramatic, with Upper Klamath Lake to the north and the volcanic peaks of the Cascades on the horizon, although the town itself sits on level ground. Many residents work in Klamath Falls, at the nearby airport and air base, or in farming, and the map reflects a place closely bound to its larger neighbour.
Channels built to carry water across the basin cut through the neighbourhood in long arcs, adding elegant curved lines to an otherwise straight-edged map.
The flat valley floor allows roads to run straight for long distances, producing a clear, open grid with large blocks and wide spacing.
Toward the outskirts, houses give way to rectangular farm parcels, so the map shifts from residential texture to broad, simple agricultural shapes.

Altamont's map is calm and spacious, and it suits someone who values that sense of open land in southern Oregon. It makes a fitting memento of a family home, a posting at the nearby air base, or years spent working in the Klamath Basin.
