Amaliáda lies in the northwestern Peloponnese, in the low, fertile plain of Elis. From above, the town forms a broad, fairly regular grid. It thins out at the edges into roads that run straight across fields and orchards. The Ionian Sea is only a few kilometres to the west, and the coastline appears as a long, gentle line with a sandy shore.
As a trading centre for the surrounding farmland, the town has a practical layout. Its streets are wide enough for market traffic, and a central area is marked by squares and churches. Around the edges, the grid loosens into scattered houses and greenhouses. The plain around Amaliáda has long been some of the most productive agricultural land in western Greece.
