Ancud sits at the northern end of Chiloé Island in southern Chile, on a bay that opens towards the Chacao Channel and the Pacific. The town climbs steep ground above the water, and its map shows streets bending around hills, with a denser grid near the waterfront and looser roads higher up.
The coastline is the dominant line on the map. The bay's curving edge, small headlands and river mouths frame the town, and beyond it the island's shore breaks into coves and inlets. Roads lead inland across rolling, green countryside dotted with farms and patches of native forest.
Ancud was founded in the eighteenth century as a Spanish fortified settlement, and the remains of Fuerte San Antonio still overlook the bay. Chiloé is also known for its wooden churches, several of which are on the UNESCO World Heritage list. An Ancud map poster brings together the harbour town and the island landscape around it.
The old fort stands on a rise above the bay, one of the last Spanish strongholds in Chile, marking the historic heart of the town on the map.
A long curving shoreline defines the town's northern edge, with the waterfront road following the water and streets rising steeply behind it.
Inland roads spread across Chiloé's rolling farmland, their fine lines linking scattered farms and small communities in a quiet, open pattern.

Ko e hā ʻa Ancud
Ancud is a place travellers remember: the ferry crossing, the bay, the penguin colonies on the nearby coast. For people from Chiloé it is the gateway home. Either way, the map holds the town's sea-facing shape beautifully.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line with a trip date or a phrase, and pick Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint makes the bay and coastline especially striking.
