Annandale is a census-designated community in Fairfax County, a few miles west of Washington, D.C. Instead of a historic grid, its map is a mesh of postwar subdivisions: curving residential streets, cul-de-sacs and loops fitted between a handful of main roads. The Capital Beltway runs along its eastern side, and Little River Turnpike cuts through the middle as the main commercial spine.
The commercial strip along Little River Turnpike has a large concentration of Korean businesses and restaurants, and Annandale is widely known as the region's Koreatown. A large campus of Northern Virginia Community College is here too. Stream valleys, including Accotink Creek, run through the suburban fabric in bands of woodland and parkland that break up the housing.
An Annandale map poster turns a familiar suburb into a surprisingly intricate design. The Beltway interchange forms a bold shape at one edge, the turnpike is a straight line through the centre, and hundreds of curving residential streets fill the space between them. It shows how much structure lies inside a place usually seen only from the car.
Where the Capital Beltway meets Little River Turnpike, ramps and loops form a large, sculptural shape. It is the most striking piece of engineering on the map.
The turnpike runs straight through the community as its main street. Shopping centres, restaurants and offices line both sides, set against the curving residential streets around them.
Creeks such as Accotink Creek run through Annandale in strips of woodland and parkland. On the map they read as irregular green corridors between subdivisions.

Annandale is a first American address for many families and a long-term home for many others. A map of its streets marks that chapter quietly, and the Beltway and turnpike make it recognisable to anyone from the D.C. area.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps with a family name or a move-in date, and choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. HD files are $9, and printed posters ship from print partners in more than 30 countries.
