Bagnolet lies immediately east of Paris, in Seine-Saint-Denis, separated from the 20th arrondissement by the Boulevard Périphérique. On a map its most striking feature is the Porte de Bagnolet, where the ring road meets the start of the A3 motorway in a large, looping interchange that dominates the western edge of the town.
Beyond the interchange, the town climbs the slopes of the plateau of Romainville, with narrow older streets, small houses and workshops mixed with apartment blocks. Near the Gallieni metro station, the terminus of line 3, stand the two Mercuriales towers, visible landmarks of the eastern Paris skyline.
