Baiyang is a town in the northeast of Chongqing municipality, in the steep, folded country along the Yangtze. No land here is truly flat. From above, streets do not form a grid. They follow the contours, stepping along hillsides and squeezing into the narrow level ground the terrain leaves.
Seen on a map, this makes Baiyang look organic: roads curve, split and meet at odd angles, and the built-up area stretches along the valley lines instead of spreading out evenly.
