Balţīm is a town on the northern edge of the Nile Delta in Kafr el-Sheikh Governorate, on the narrow strip of land between the Mediterranean Sea and Lake Burullus. From above, that position shapes everything: open sea to the north, a wide lagoon to the south, and the town laid out along the coast road that runs between them.
The older centre is a tight mesh of streets, while blocks of summer apartments and chalets line the beachfront. On the lagoon side, rectangular fish ponds and farm plots create a geometric pattern along the water's edge. The wide, shallow lagoon to the south fills much of the frame. Its irregular shoreline and islands contrast with the straight line of the sea coast.
