Baltiysk occupies the tip of the Sambian Peninsula in Kaliningrad Oblast, facing a narrow channel that links the Vistula Lagoon to the Baltic Sea. Across the water lies the long, thin Vistula Spit. On a map the town is defined almost entirely by water: open sea to the west, the lagoon to the east, and harbour basins cut into the shoreline between them.
Known as Pillau until 1946, the town grew around a fortified port. Its most distinctive shape is the star-shaped citadel, a seventeenth-century fortress whose pointed bastions remain clearly visible from above. Nearby, piers, breakwaters and inner harbours form a geometric pattern of basins and quays. Today Baltiysk is the main base of Russia's Baltic Fleet, which explains the scale of its waterfront.
A Baltiysk map poster brings those elements together: the strait, the citadel, the harbour works and the modest grid of residential streets behind them. In black and white, the contrast between land and water is especially strong, and the fortress reads almost like an emblem at the heart of the composition.

A narrow shipping channel connecting the Vistula Lagoon to the Baltic. Long breakwaters extend into the sea, marking the entrance with straight, precise lines.
Rectangular docks and quays are carved into the shoreline. They give the map a structured, engineered edge that contrasts with the natural curve of the coast.

Ko e hā ʻa Baltiysk
Baltiysk carries meaning for people who served there, grew up near the harbour, or trace family roots to old Pillau. Its outline, between lagoon and sea, is unlike any other town in Russia, and it makes a striking piece on a wall.
